Is Mud Better than Potholes?

Great day to be on the motorcycle! We left Anchorage this morning and met our friends who also own a sidecar, Bob and Sharon Peek. We had lunch at Vagabond Blues before heading to the Matanuska  Glacier. Rasta is doing very well in the sidecar, all she asks is to stretch her legs about every hour.
Rasta packed and ready to go

We got rained on, so we quickly put the convertible top on the side car. While we were getting wet, Rasta was dry and cuddling with her wookie.

We rolled into Glennallen, the city of God (as my good friend Jaz refers to this small conservative community), and topped off the gas tanks before we moved on to Chistochina.

Notice the pup has her pillow in the trunk! Spoiled brat.
We checked into our cabin at the Red Eagle. While checking in we ran into a group of motorcyclists from Ohio. I asked where they were coming from and they said they had just come from Top of the World Highway near Dawson. This is where we are going tomorrow, so I asked what the condition of the road was like. He said it was really rough and horrible – dirt road, bumpy, filled with large potholes. I said, yes, but was it muddy? He said no, it was dry. I said, oh then, it was a good road.
The owner of the cabins chuckled and said to the man from Ohio, Alaskans have a different definition of a good road then most people from the lower 48. I am thinking of the mud bath, Jaz and I had years ago. Motorhomes were sliding off the road. Crazy mud!

Of course, I will let you know tomorrow if the road was horrible. Is mud better than potholes in a sidecar? We will soon find out.

Today we leave for an epic 2200 mile RT journey from our home in Anchorage, Alaska to the Tuktoyuktuk at the top of the Northwest Territory, Canada. Roughly 1100 miles rt will be dirt.
Rasta, my service dog from Canine Companions for Independence will be joining us.
